Respiratory Health Association to Host Three-Part Webinar Series


In order to protect the health and wellness of the community, the Respiratory Health Association (RHA) has announced that their annual in-person “Living Better Together COPD” Conference has been postponed. In its place, RHA is pleased to announce the Living Better Together COPD Webinar Series. Throughout the month of November, please join RHA for a selection of webinars focused on COPD disease management.

Webinar Title: Supplemental Oxygen at Home

When: Friday, November 6, 2020 10am-11am

Supplemental oxygen or oxygen therapy is often prescribed to those living with severe COPD. Join RHA for our next webinar in our Living Better Together COPD Education Series as Dr. Jerry Krishnan discusses what supplemental oxygen is, the benefits of using supplemental oxygen, and how to know when it’s time to start or stop using home oxygen.

Dr. Krishnan is a practicing pulmonologist, physician-scientist, and member of the executive leadership team for the health system at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is an expert in the management of asthma and COPD.  He serves on various national and international guideline committees on topics such as the management of asthma; prevention and treatment of COPD exacerbations; and use of home oxygen therapy.

Webinar Title: Current COPD Medications

When: Thursday, November 12, 2020 10am-11am

Since there is not currently a cure for COPD, treatment focuses on managing symptoms and slowing down further lung damage. Medications play a large part in the successful management of COPD. Join RHA for the next webinar in our Living Better Together COPD Education Series to learn more about the different types of COPD medications.

Dr. Wilken is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the UIC College of Pharmacy. She is the director of the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System tobacco treatment center and the clinical pharmacist in the adult pulmonary outpatient clinics. Her areas of interest include the role of clinical pharmacists in COPD, asthma, and tobacco dependence. She has authored several articles and book chapters on smoking cessation, asthma, and COPD.

Webinar Title: COPD and Common Comorbidities

When: Tuesday, November 17, 2020 3:30pm-4:30pm

Presenter: Dr. Paul Reyfman, MD, MS

Comorbidities, or having more than one condition at the same time, can occur in patients with mild, moderate, or severe COPD. Join RHA as we discuss some of the most common conditions that can develop in addition to a COPD diagnosis and how they can impact the quality of life for those living with COPD.

 Dr. Reyfman is a physician scientist in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Reyfman’s research focuses on respiratory health, the effects of aging on the lung, and chronic lung diseases including pulmonary fibrosis and COPD.
