The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released its 2017 consumer booklet on durable medical equipment (DME) coverage. CMS defines DME as “reusable medical equipment like walkers, wheelchairs, or hospital beds” This official government booklet, entitled Medicare Coverage of Durable Medical Equipment and Other Devices describes:
- What durable medical equipment is
- Which durable medical equipment, prosthetic, and orthotic items are covered by Original Medicare, and
- Where to get help with your questions.
In addition to items like walkers, wheelchairs and hospital beds, DME also includes home oxygen equipment, nebulizers, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices, and many other types of equipment. If you or a loved one is in need of durable medical equipment, this CMS booklet will prove invaluable.
