The US COPD Coalition (USCC) is pleased to announce that the Allergy & Asthma Network (AAN) is the latest organization to join the Coalition. The Allergy & Asthma Network’s application for membership was unanimously approved by the USCC’s Board of Directors on September 17, 2020.
“AAN’s membership in the US COPD Coalition will add great value to the work of the Coalition. We are glad to see a greater recognition of the crossover between Asthma and COPD”, said Sam Giordano, Chair of the USCC Board of Directors. “AAN has been a leader in Asthma advocacy, and will fit in perfectly with US COPD Coalition’s mission.”
Tonya Winders, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Allergy & Asthma Network, agrees that joining the US COPD Coalition makes sense. “Allergy & Asthma Network is excited to join the US COPD Coalition because we believe together, we are stronger! As a COPD advocacy community, we can work collaboratively to drive awareness; educate the public, patients, healthcare professionals & policymakers; research new treatments & seek a cure; and advocate to ensure policies exist to get the right treatment at the right time. The Network engages, educates and empowers over 80M Americans living with allergies, asthma & related conditions including COPD.”
According to its website, Allergy & Asthma Network was founded in 1985, when Nancy Sander, mother of a young daughter with severe asthma and environmental and food allergies, had difficulty finding patient-friendly information on asthma and allergies. The Network has grown into “the leading nonprofit patient-centered network uniting individuals, families, healthcare professionals, industry leaders and government decision-makers to improve health and quality of life for the millions of people affected by asthma, allergies and related conditions.”
